The annual Walk for Wishes® for Make-A-Wish Connecticut raised a record-setting $70,000 on May 19th at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo. Present to join in the festivities were Jolana Smith of Star 99.9 as well as Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch, who helped to kick off the night along with Make-A-Wish President & CEO Mike Burke.
This was the first year the event took place in the evening and at the Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport. It began with awards and a kickoff by former Wish recipient Alyssa Casson, who stepped up once again as the event’s Chair. Alyssa’s wish was to go on a Hawaiian cruise, and she has joined in the effort as event chair for the past 3 years organizing an array of activities that in the past has included bounce houses, arts and crafts, children’s authors, face painting, hula dancing lessons, mascot appearances and more. This year, Alyssa has again stepped into her role and continues to bring new ideas to the table, making the celebration fun and exciting for kids and adults of all ages.ollowed by the non-competitive walk and, to top off the event, a Wish Celebration.
Participants enjoyed food and fun for the entire family, bounce houses, raffle items, music, awards and entertainment. But above all else, it was an evening of making wishes come true. To all who helped make the evening a success, the Make-A-Wish family says thank you!
