This is an unprecedented time and our number one responsibility is the safety of our wish kids and their families, volunteers, community supporters, and employees.
Given the escalating concerns related to the spread of the coronavirus, Make-A-Wish America, in collaboration with the National Medical Advisory Council, Leadership Council Team and members of the National Board, has determined that all domestic and international wish travel be postponed until further notice, as well as all wishes that involve attendance at large gatherings, including theaters, sporting events and theme parks.
Please know that we remain committed to ensuring that your child receives their wish. All families impacted by this policy change will be given the option of postponing or changing their wish.
Make-A-Wish staff members are currently reaching out to families whose wishes are being immediately impacted. If your family has a child with an upcoming wish and you haven't yet been contacted, please be patient. You will hear from us soon. If you have any immediate questions, please contact your wish-granting volunteer or staff coordinator.
If you are a Make-A-Wish volunteer and have questions regarding wishes you are working on, please contact Lisa Brown at firstname.lastname@example.org or (203)880-6965. Until further notice, we are requiring virtual interactions between volunteers and wish families to limit exposure. We will be sure to let you know in advance when this changes. If your wish family is unable to connect with you virtually, please contact our office so that we can discuss other options.
We will continue to monitor guidance from national and international public health and government organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO) and U.S. State Department, and are working closely with the National Make-A-Wish Medical Advisory Council, keeping the best interest of the children and families we serve at the center of all policy decisions we make. We will continue to actively monitor that situation and will advise those who have chosen to postpone about rescheduling options as soon as travel is once again possible.
As always, we remain committed to our vision of granting the wish of every eligible child fighting a critical illness.
