I wish to be a zookeeper!

“ It was so cool to work with him in person! ”

- Anna

Anna loves everything about animals. She loves to play with dogs whenever she can, and Anna has also always enjoyed spending time in the library, reading about the different exotic creatures throughout the world. And when she’s finished reading, Anna likes nothing more than to sit back and watch an episode of her favorite cartoon dog, Scooby Doo. From academics to playing outside, to watching TV, Anna’s love and passion for animals and wildlife seems to be in the middle of it all.

Anna has been diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition that has frequently taken her away from the things she loves most. Anna has often had to sacrifice time at home, and with her closest friends, in order to deal with constant doctor’s appointments and medical treatments. But Anna has not let her condition stand in her way. In fact, she has taken her condition head-on and has never let it define who she is. She fights to remain active in swimming, her favorite sport, and she gets outside to play with the dogs whenever she can. When Anna’s condition forces her to take a step back from these joyful moments, she focuses on learning more about the great outdoors and the wildlife that exist in remote parts of the world.

When Anna was asked what her one true wish would be, it didn’t take her too long to figure it out. Anna has become an avid fan of Jack Hanna, director emeritus, at the Columbus Zoo. Whenever she had the chance, Anna would watch Jack on television, excited to learn more about his Zoo and the animals he took care of. So when Anna was asked what her one true wish would be, she wished to meet Jack Hanna and be a zookeeper with him at the Columbus Zoo!

Anna’s trip was nothing short of magical. Anna spent the entire day with Jack, listening to every word he said and taking it to heart. She had free reign of the Columbus Zoo, exploring all the behind-the-scenes areas, asking questions, and truly learning what it meant to be a zookeeper. For Anna, this was an affirmation of her love of wildlife – and a dream come true!

Anna’s wish to be a zookeeper with Jack Hanna gave her something to look forward to during her most difficult times. Whenever she was down, Anna would remind herself that soon her wish would come true and her wildest dreams would become a reality. And the memories that Anna created with Jack and with her entire family are magical moments that will never fade away.
